WIPs – Works In Progress (it’s a quilting thing)
These are long term projects that I’m currently working on.
Mustard Bug Quilt
This is my version of the Tula Pink City Sampler that I’m making for the #100days100blocks2018 hosted by Gnome Angel. I have my own tag for my blocks / soon to be quilt – it’s #mustardbugquilt. I’m fussy cutting bugs out of the Cotton and Steel fabric line Toyko Train Ride for focal blocks and the main color I’m using a solid 70’s mustard yellow.
Farmer’s Wife 1920’s Quilt
This is another quilt / sew along hosted by Gnome Angel that I’m joining in on using the book The Farmer’s Wife 1920 which is made up of 111 six inch quilt blocks. I’m making this one for my youngest to use as a bed quilt out of florals with some fussy cut butterfly prints. It’s not scrappy, but it will be busy. However, I plan on using a solid pink for sashing the blocks for some uniformity. You can view my blocks at #fw1920bymelody.
Choose Your Own Adventure QAL
This is an unusual quilt along hosted by Moda Bake Shop that I am way behind on. I’m very happy with the way my quilt top is progressing though. #melodyschoosemyownadventureqal
Scrappy Kitty King Fisher Quilt
This was another quilt along that I’m drastically behind in but still plan on finishing. This will be another quilt for my youngest as she’s had quite a hand in helping me with it and kitties are her jam. You can find all the pics at #nikkiskingfisherquilt
Christmas King Fisher Quilt
This is the same pattern as the Scrappy Kitty one above but this one is being done with Christmas fabrics. You can see pics of it on the above hashtag as well.
2020 Crazy Quilt
Sharon of PinTangle (IMO the queen of crazy quilting) issued a challenge – make a crazy quilt that includes 2,020 different elements by the year 2020. Of course, like everything else, I have to put my own twist on it. The twist? I’m making mine from hexie’s. Each hexie will have the same center fabric but every block will have 18 other, all different, fabric bits. The crazy part? I’m doing this all on 1″ hexies and I’m going to try to have 1 bit of fabric fussy cut on each. Stop and let that sink in for a moment – 19 bits of fabric, including a fussy cut bit, on a 1″ hexie. Yea, I’m that kinda crazy. You can find images of my craziness at #2020crazyquiltbymelody So far in my 3 blocks I have 45 of the needed 2,020 ‘things’. I will be adding in some hand embroidery, bits of lace and other items along with beads, sequins, etc once I finish the blocks and quilt it. If I do it before, due to the size, I would not be able to actually quilt it for the bits and bobbles on the surface.
T-Shirt Rag Rug
Using various bits of clothing that no longer fit or have stains or are otherwise yuck to wear, I’m making a colorful crochet rug for my little girl’s room. You can see my progress at #tshirtragrugfornikki
